Yahoo is now powered by Bing

Bing Inside

This was the week that many of Yahoo's search functions, staples of the web from its earliest days, were shut down. Yahoo announced that the transition to the Microsoft platform for organic search was complete. The blog Liveside provided a cheat sheet of how the two services will both cooperate and compete for the foreseeable future. Search Engine Watch published an important list of specific changes that will be important to PPC.

It was an ambivalent web moment when one of the earliest search engines seemed to admit that it found it hard to compete in the 21st century. While Bing seemed overjoyed by the 'milestone', Yahoo SVP of Search Shashi Seth took a more defensive tone in a post reminding the market that search is a lot more than just indexing and crawling, and that, if you look at a Boeing plane, you'll note that they don't make their engines either.
